Market closes in red; IT and oil stocks lead sectoral decline

Equity benchmarks finished the session in the red, with Nifty settling at 22,698. IT and Oil & Gas sectors fell by 2% each, putting downward pressure on the main indices. In contrast, Auto, Pharma, and Consumer Durable sectors bucked the trend, gaining nearly 1.5% each. Market breadth was marginally positive, with over 2,100 shares advancing despite the headline index losses.
